ANN ARBOR — Nike has partnered with the University of Michigan to become the school’s official athletic footwear, apparel and equipment provider through 2027, with the option to extend the deal through 2031.

“This decision, this partnership is about more than Michigan athletics,” says Jim Hackett, interim director of athletics for the University of Michigan.  “At the core, it is about our university community, and it is about two great names reuniting for an opportunity that speaks to more than uniforms and apparel.”

The partnership, which begins August 1, 2016, includes: Nike provided uniforms, footwear, apparel, and equipment for all athletic programs; collaborations for innovation initiatives in sports technology, design, and best practices; and possible student internships at Nike headquarters and community events.

U-M previously held a contract with Nike in 1994 until partnering with Adidas in 2007. The university will continue to work with Adidas for the duration of their contract.

Fans will also be able to purchase officially licensed Michigan gear produced by Nike once the partnership commences.
