Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) announced Tiffany Ford, UMCU President and CEO, joined UMCU board members and Mandy Grewal, Pittsfield Township supervisor, to break ground on a new 4,400-square-foot, state-of-the-art branch. Construction is set to begin in May and completed by late 2018.

“We’re happy to provide convenient, quality and accessible financial services to current and prospective credit union members in the Ann-Arbor community and beyond,” says Ford. “From checking accounts to mortgages, car loans to free financial education seminars, we offer a full array of credit union products in the communities where our members live, work, learn, and play. We’re thrilled with our continued growth and ongoing credit union focus of people helping people.”

The UMCM is a member-owned, nonprofit cooperative. Established in 1954, it initially had 12 members and $9 in assets. Today, UMCU has more than 85,000 members and more than $800 million in assets and is the only credit union headquartered in Ann Arbor. UMCU has grown to more than eight offices in Ann Arbor, two branches in Ypsilanti, a branch in Dearborn and three branches in Flint.

UMCU also serves the financial needs of the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College, and their surrounding communities. The credit union also provides its members with free educational and financial wellness workshops regarding balancing a home budget, buying a home, and establishing savings.
