Troy Beaumont Named Among Top Cardiovascular Hospitals

TROY — Beaumont Hospital in Troy was named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, a national health care consulting firm that provides information and solutions to improve cost and quality.

Beaumont was recognized for being a top performerand a leader in cardiovascular care for the two most common cardiovascular conditions: heart attack and heart failure, and the two most common interventions: percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting.

This is the third time Beaumont in Troy has been named a winner for cardiovascular care, in the annual study conducted since 1999.

“This award was accomplished through the efforts of a dedicated team of cardiovascular doctors, nurses, technicians and administrators who are committed to doing what’s right for our patients,” said Douglas Westveer, M.D., chief of Cardiology at Beaumont.

Truven Health Analytics researchers analyzed 2011 and 2012 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data, 2012 Medicare cost reports, and 2013 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare data.

The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study evaluates performance in key areas: risk-adjusted mortality; risk-adjusted complications; core measures; or a group of measures that assess process of care; percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammary artery use; 30-day mortality rates; 30-day readmission rates; severity-adjusted average length of stay; and wage-and severity-adjusted average cost.
