Rehmann, a financial services and advisory firm, has announced Chris D’Agostino, assurance associate in the firm’s Troy office, has been honored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants with the Elijah Watt Sells Award.

The Elijah Watt Sells Award program was established in 1923 to recognize outstanding performance on the CPA exam. Sells, one of the first CPAs in the U.S., was active in the establishment of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and played a key role in advancing professional education within the profession.

To qualify for the award, CPA candidates must obtain a cumulative average score above 95.5 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, pass all four sections on their first attempt, and have completed testing in 2018.

“My advice to myself was to remain focused and ultimately sacrifice today for tomorrow,” says D’Agostino. “It’s exciting to have received this award because you don’t really expect to perform so well on an already difficult exam, but it feels good to be recognized as one of the top performers.”

Nearly 86,000 individuals sat for the CPA Exam in 2018 with 110 candidates meeting the criteria to receive the Elijah Watt Sells Award.

Rehmann is based in Troy and has nearly 900 associates in Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.
