BIRMINGHAM — The Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham was the only hotel in metro Detroit and one of only three in Michigan to be named among this years’s top 500 World’s Best Hotels listed in Travel + Leisure magazine, based on a reader survey. The other two were the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids.
“Acknowledgement from the publications and organizations that know the travel and hospitality industries best is of significant meaning to both The Townsend team and our guests,” says Steven Kalczynski, the property’s managing director. “It confirms for our team that we are doing our very best work every day, and that our level of attention and service is being recognized. For our guests, it affirms that The Townsend is the best in terms of exceptional and personalized luxury and service.”
According to the publication, respondents to the survey were asked to rate hotels in the categories of rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food and value. The Townsend experience includes the Rugby Grille, The Corner bar, Afternoon Tea and a variety of bakery, banquet and catering services.
The Travel + Leisure endorsement is the latest industry honor for the boutique Townsend Hotel. The property also has again this year been named a four-star hotel by Forbes Travel Guide, and a AAA four-diamond luxury property.
