Livonia-based auto insurance agency, the Michigan Automobile Insurance Placement Facility, (MAIPF) today announced that its executive director Terri A. Miller will depart from the facility after nearly 20 years. Karyn Spaude, MAIPF controller, has been named interim director as the organization seeks to fill the position. The facility expects to announce a new executive director within a month.

“Terri has been an invaluable asset to both the MAIPF and the Help Eliminate Auto Thefts program (HEAT) in her nearly 20-year tenure, and we are deeply appreciative of her commitment to Michigan citizens in this role,” says Don Simon, MAIPF board chair. “Looking ahead, I have the utmost confidence in Karyn, who has distinguished herself as a clear leader in her time at MAIPF, as well as in the abilities of the MAIPF management team. I expect a smooth transition as we seek a new leader to fill this important role.”

Since her appointment in 1999, Miller has overseen the organization’s mission to guarantee that automobile insurance is available to Michigan citizens who are unable to obtain it in the competitive market. That role was expanded in 2012 with the integration of the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan to the MAIPF. Miller’s role has also included acting as executive director of the HEAT program, which operates a confidential tip line for reporting information about auto theft, carjacking, and auto theft-related insurance fraud. The program has aided in the recovery of more than $60.8 million in stolen vehicles and other property in its 32-year history.
