ROYAL OAK — The Detroit Zoological Society’s annual Sunset at the Zoo fundraiser will feature a boardwalk-themed gala celebrating the Detroit Zoo’s Cotton Family Wetlands and soon-to-open Jane and Frank Warchol Beaver Habitat. The wildest event of the summer takes place from 7-11:30 p.m. June 14. The 21-and-over party is held rain or shine and the Zoo closes at 2 p.m. that day in preparation for the festivities.
Presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, Sunset at the Zoo “Boardwalk Bash” will offer a strolling supper with tastes of signature dishes from 40 of the area’s finest restaurants as well as desserts and zoo-themed specialty drinks. The event will also feature live entertainment – including performances by Detroit Flyhouse and music by The Jerry Ross Band — boardwalk games, dancing, live and silent auctions and access to the Zoo’s award-winning animal habitats as the sun goes down. Attire for the evening is “summer chic”.
Tickets for Sunset at the Zoo range from $150 to $750 per person. A benefactor party hosted by The Crain Family will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 22 at the Bloomfield Hills home of Ashley and KC Crain for guests purchasing $750 benefactor tickets. A VIP reception, sponsored by Jeep, will be held at the Zoo 5:30-7 p.m. June 14, for those purchasing $750 benefactor tickets and $300 patron tickets.
