ROYAL OAK — The Detroit Zoological Society’s Benefactor Bash for 150 high-level supporters of this year’s Sunset at the Zoo will be held at the Manoogian Mansion, home of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and first lady Lori Maher. Co-hosted by Suzy and Burt Farbman, president of the Detroit Zoological Commission, the soiree takes place on May 20 for guests purchasing $750 tickets.
While the party at the Manoogian is sure to be the hottest ticket in town, the annual Sunset at the Zoo fundraiser, presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, promises to be the coolest event of the summer. Themed “Summer Chill” in celebration of the Detroit Zoo’s future Polk Penguin Conservation Center, Sunset takes place June 12.
Sunset at the Zoo offers a strolling supper with tastes of signature dishes from 40 of the area’s finest restaurants as well as desserts and zoo-themed specialty drinks. The event also features live music by The Jerry Ross Band, dancing in the moonlight, live and silent auctions and access to many of the Zoo’s award-winning animal habitats as the sun goes down. Attire is “summer chic.”
Tickets for Sunset at the Zoo range from $175 to $750 per person and can be purchased online at detroitzoo.org/sunset. Supporter tickets are $175 each or two for $300 if purchased by April 30. Patron tickets are $300 each and include a VIP Reception on June 12, 5:30-7 p.m. A limited number of Benefactor tickets are available for $750 each and include the Benefactor Bash on May 20 as well as the VIP Reception on June 12.
