Sterling Heights’ Sterling Insurance Group donated $10,000 to Vets Returning Home, a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization dedicated to helping veterans transition into stable lives. The nonprofit will use the award to purchase a new van for the facility and to transport veterans to Veterans Affairs offices and job interviews.

Vets Returning Home is based in Roseville and operates an 11,000-square-foot facility with 43 beds. The organization offers a variety of resources including employment training, job placement assistance, disability benefit connection, legal support, and life skills training.

Initially, Sterling Insurance Group was able to make a donation through the help of a $5,000 award from the 2019 Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Awards, which recognizes independent insurance agents who demonstrate volunteerism for nonprofit organizations.

Later, Safeco offered Sterling an opportunity to raise additional funds through Safeco’s Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages. The insurance company made an additional $5,000, and their story was shared more than 250 times in the course of a week.
