State Health Education Center Names Associate Program Director

Thomas J. Reed has been named associate program director of the Michigan Area Health Education Center in Detroit.

Reed will develop, organize, direct, and evaluate all administrative, fiscal, personnel, and operational functions of the program office, which is based at Wayne State University. Reed will also serve as a liaison to Michigan four regional centers, government agencies, health associations, health care providers, lawmakers, funders, and academic and program partners.

Reed has more than 25 years of experience in health and human services administration and management. Prior to joining Michigan AHEC, he provided consulting services to profit and nonprofit organizations. During that time, Reed managed the reorganization of Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan from five county-based corporations into one regional charities delivery system.

He also Catholic Services of Macomb and Lapeer counties for nearly 20 years as president, chief executive officer, and board member and worked at the Detroit Medical Center, where he served as director of business operations and associate director of patient services for DMC Health Centers and associate administrator in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hutzel Hospital.

Reed held several positions, including director of medical practices for Riverview Medical Offices and director of materials management at Detroit Riverview Hospital, at the Detroit Macomb Hospital Corp. He earned a bachelor’s in education from the University of Michigan and a master’s in administration, with a special concentration in health services administration, from Central Michigan University.
