Square One Education Network, a Detroit nonprofit that focuses on teacher-student learning experiences, has named Dan DuBois as CEO and Barb Land as COO.

Following the retirement of Karl Klimek, DuBois will drive future growth, sustainability, and support for the company. He has been an active member and treasurer of the volunteer board of directors for the past year. Prior to joining Square One, DuBois has served as controller and corporate officer at Christman Constructors, CFO of RW Mercer Co., and senior director for Michigan International Speedway.

“Square One’s programs prepare K-12 students for future careers in STEAM through its innovative hands-on approach that teaches practical knowledge of skills needed today and for the future of mobility, such as electronics, coding, 3D printing and the mechanics of autonomous and connected technologies,” says DuBois. “Along with its position in the heart of the automotive industry, this sets Square One apart from other organizations, and I am honored to be selected to lead its talented team and continue to grow upon its past success.”

Land has been promoted from her previous role as operations director. In her new position she will be responsible for directing and executing new programs and overseeing staff and volunteers. Land was appointed to the Michigan Women’s Commission by Gov. Rick Snyder.

“Barb’s promotion to COO recognizes her tremendous dedication to teachers and students, and amazing accomplishments at Square One over the last several years,” says Michelle Mueller, board of directors chair for Square One. “She is one of our strongest advocates and because of her skill and effort we have been able to increase our reach and unique programming throughout the state of Michigan.”
