Western Governors University, a Utah-based online college known for supporting military personnel and veterans, has announced Skye Stringer as the new military strategic partnerships manager. Stringer, a Navy veteran, will support Michigan military families in accessing higher education.
In the role, Stringer will support higher education and career opportunities for military families across WGU’s central region, which includes Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. She will develop and build relationships with military-affiliated organizations and partners, active duty military, spouses, dependents, and veterans to support workforce development through continuing education at WGU.
“I am honored to take on this regional role with WGU and work closely with military families and partners to promote the value and accessibility of WGU’s educational programs,” says Stringer. “I truly believe that working with military families is my calling in life. The military is where I began my career, and this new role comes full circle for me. Our active and veteran service members and their families are such pillars of our communities, and my excitement to support them comes honestly.”
Stringer brings over a decade of personnel management and human resource experience. She began her career as a helicopter mechanic with the Navy in 2008, spending her last two years in service as a command training manager.
After her service ended in 2013, she got a bachelor’s degree in history while raising her twins alongside her active duty spouse. She first began working closely with military families as a Navy family advocate for TRIDENT Refit Facility, a military-civilian installation on Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Geogia.
“Our university is driven by a mission to expand access to higher education to learners of all backgrounds and support their pathway toward career advancement and success,” says Alison Bell, chancellor of WGU Indiana and regional vice president of WGU. “Skye has a proven track record of experience matched with a strong passion for supporting military families, making her the ideal candidate to lead our military outreach and strategic partnerships at WGU. We are thrilled to welcome her to our team.”
