The Detroit PBS board of trustees has elected Simon Whitelocke, senior vice president and chief business officer of ITC Holdings Corp. He succeeds Melissa Roy, founder of Roy Public Affairs, who served 17 years on the Detroit PBS board and will continue as a trustee.
“With Simon at the helm, we are positioned to face the current challenges in public media boldly, armed with optimism and fortitude as we continue serving this great community,” says Rich Homberg, president and CEO of Detroit PBS. “At his core, Simon is a problem solver – his dynamic approach and visionary leadership are just what Detroit PBS needs at this time.”
Whitelocke has been a member of the Detroit PBS board since 2014 and most recently served as chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.
“Detroit PBS is deeply rooted in the community, building face-to-face relationships with residents, collaborating with partners and seeking ways to enrich and serve the local area,” says Whitelocke. “As the media industry landscape evolves, Detroit PBS’ commitment to providing nonbiased, timely and locally focused news and information is more crucial than ever. I’m looking forward to strategizing with a board of talented and dedicated leaders as we tackle these challenges head on.”
As senior vice president and chief business officer of ITC, Whitelocke is responsible for leading the company’s federal regulatory, government affairs and communication activities, as well as overseeing the strategic direction, community relations and financial performance for ITC’s four operating subsidiaries: ITC Midwest, ITC Great Plains, ITC Transmission and Michigan Electric Transmission Company (METC). Whitelocke previously served as president of ITC Michigan, chief compliance officer and served in other roles responsible for regulatory affairs, external affairs, and internal audit functions.
Prior to joining ITC, he worked at DTE Energy and in public accounting. Whitelocke earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration in finance and management from Michigan State University.
