Sea Life Michigan Aquarium unveiling a new exhibit that will feature a wide variety of crustaceans from all over the world to the public next Monday.
Called “Claws,” the exhibit will include the Japanese Spider Crab, the Puget Sound King Crab, the Mantis Shrimp, the Fiddler Crab, and the Halloween Moon Crab.
“Our guests are going to be blown away by how cool these unique creatures are,” says curator Kelli Cadenas. “The Mantis Shrimp, for example, have smashing clubs on their arms they use to open shells and stun prey, and they have better color vision than humans. And the giant Japanese Spider Crabs have legs over two feet long and they can live up to 100 years.”
Sea Life Michigan annual pass holders will have the chance to check out the new exhibit before anyone else at a special preview event from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21. The event has a limit of 60 guests per half hour and is anticipated to reach capacity, so annual pass holders are encouraged to register in advance here.
