Samaritas Names Executive Director of Foster Care

Laura Mitchell has been promoted to the position of executive director of foster care for Detroit-based Samaritas.

Mitchell, of Grand Rapids, has worked in foster care with Samaritas for nearly 30 years as a foster care worker and home licensor, supervisor of the organization’s Child and Family Services in west Michigan and then director of the division.

Her new position is a new role Mitchell will provide support and oversight to Samaritas foster care endeavors throughout the state. Mitchell supports five program directors and their teams, focusing on quality outcomes and improved family functioning. She plays a key role in a pilot program in Kent County, which is looking at a performance-based funding structure for child welfare.

Mitchell, of Grand Rapids, earned her bachelor of social work from Western Michigan University and holds a Master of Public Administration from Grand Valley State University.
