DETROIT — Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has committed to a $50,000 annual contribution for the next three years to support Eastern Market’s efforts to improve food access.

The health system will serve as the nutrition sponsor of the Friends of Eastern Market program.

“Saint Joseph Mercy Health System’s support has allowed us to increase the number of Farm Stands at community sites, such as the Samaritan Center, which offers a multi-faceted health resource center for those in Detroit neighborhoods who may be unable to afford such services,”shared Tracy Rivard, director of development, Eastern Market Corp.

This partnership enables the market to expand food access and nutrition education thus improving access to healthy, green, affordable, and fair food choices in Detroit and throughout southeast Michigan.
