tSOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Providence Hospital in Southfield opened the doors to a portion of its expanded emergency department on January 10, an expansion that included 16 new beds/bays, which will increase to 52 the total number of treatment areas. It is the result of the first phase of a $ 5 million Emergency Department expansion and renovation that is expected to be completed by early April, said Nadine Cook, Providence Hospital, community relations consultant.
tThe Emergency Department expansion and renovation will enable the hospital to provide greater privacy and comfort to the more than 65,000 patients who annually seek emergency care at Providence Hospital. The renovation, which is currently underway in the emergency room, includes construction on the central core and finishing upgrades to the existing area.
tThe expansion and renovation of the emergency department is just a portion of a $14 million capital improvement plan for the hospital. Additional renovation and expansion plans include a $5 million expansion and renovation of the Providence Cancer Center and the renovation of the inpatient nursing units.

That in brings in new residents to both live and work in our city.”
