ORION TOWNSHIP — Powers Distributing has earned a nomination for Craft Beer Distributor of the Year, to be presented by the National Beer Wholesalers Association and Brewers Association at the Great American Beer Festival on Oct. 12.
“We’re so honored to be included for this prestigious award,” said Gary Thompson, chief operating officer, of Powers Distributing. “Though it’s very early in the process, we are among some worthy competitors and quite honored to be named for an award we received just two years ago. It means so much to a family-owned company such as ours to be recognized for the work we do, especially at a time when craft beer has really earned the spotlight here in Michigan.”
Based in Orion Township, Powers Distributing is a family-owned and operated business that began in 1939. Through the leadership of co-presidents Gerald and Robert Powers, the beer and beverage distributing company has fostered relationships with 90 brands, more than 35 suppliers and has grown to include more than 200 employees.
According to the NBWA, the award recognizes an American beer distributor who goes above and beyond in their efforts to actively market, sell, and promote craft beer. In addition to this honor, two additional awards will be chosen at the festival: a Craft Beer Achievement Award (first runner-up) and Craft Beer Distributor Recognition Award (second runner-up).
