West Bloomfield, Mich., (September 16, 2010) – Planterra, a national award-winning landscape firm that specializes in interior landscape design is proud to announce the grand opening of its new, state of the art conservatory. Company Founder and President Larry Pliska made the announcement.

The 23,000 square foot conservatory-style facility, which will open officially on Tuesday, October 5th, will house the largest selection of exotic plants, tropical ornamental foliage, orchids, and decorative pottery in the region.

The PLANTERRA Conservatory is the first facility of its kind in the nation offering a botanical garden-like experience within a retail setting. The building comprises three adjoining glass greenhouse structures with European hipped rooflines.

“We are extremely excited to be opening our new, state of the art conservatory in West Bloomfield,” said Larry Pliska, Planterra Chairman and Founder. “Since we launched the company, our primary customer has been clients ranging from small offices to resorts, casinos, hospitals and Fortune 500 companies. Today, with our company’s expansive collection of plants and pottery, we will now be open to the public and offering retail customers an exceptional “botanical garden” experience, unlike any other nursery or garden center in the nation.”

Since 1973, Planterra is known for providing plant service for offices, atriums, and shopping centers. In recent years, the company has expanded into replica plants, living walls and specialty display projects for casinos.

The company is a family owned and operated business, run by the Pliska family, Larry (Chairman and Founder), Carol (CEO), and their son Shane (President).

“The opening of our new retail conservatory marks a new beginning for Planterra,” said Shane Pliska, President. “The building materially symbolizes the reinvention of Planterra, not only from a retail perspective, but we have recently invested in software to improve processes and efficiencies and business relationships across the country.”

“Our new conservatory is another step in the evolution of Planterra,” said Carol Pliska, CEO. “Despite Michigan’s economy, we felt it was important to invest in our home state and keep us at the forefront of botanical design, style, and floral architecture.”

More than just an aesthetically stunning and horticultural rich facility, the PLANTERRA Conservatory is also designed as a living, breathing building and incorporates numerous ‘green’ environmental features.

The multi-million dollar project was comprised of a strong local team which includes Neumann/Smith Architects, Jonna Construction, interior designers Ron Rea and Roman Boninslawski and finance partner Level One Bank. The glass structure of the building will come from greenhouse specialists, Private Garden Greenhouse Systems of Hampden, Massachusetts and Deforche of Belgium.
