DETROIT, July 22, 2009 – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber announced the election of Sandra E. Pierce, president and CEO, Charter One Bank, Michigan as chair of the Detroit Regional Chamber Board of Directors for the 2009-2010 program year. She succeeds Leslie A. Murphy, president and CEO of Murphy Consulting, who remains on the Chamber’s Board as immediate past chair.
“I’m honored to be serving as the chamber’s chairman, and I look forward to building on the momentum from the 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference to help effect positive change for the Detroit Region’s business community,” stated Sandy Pierce.
Most recently, Pierce served as chair of the Chamber’s successful 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference, the state’s premier public-policy event where 1,400 top business, political and community leaders from across the state gathered to address the issues and challenges confronting the Detroit Region and Michigan.
Under Pierce’s leadership, the 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference featured many productive sessions and prominent national speakers. The conference focused on conveying a conversation among the Metro Detroit business community to igniting change in our region.
Pierce’s successful and diverse banking career began in 1978 when she joined National Bank of Detroit. In 2002 after holding a number of significant roles at NBD and its successor organizations, she became regional executive of Bank One’s Retail Midwest Region. In 2005 Pierce joined Charter One as president and CEO in Michigan.
Planning for the Detroit Regional Chamber 2010 Mackinac Policy Conference will begin in August. The 2010 conference will be chaired by First Vice Chair Barbara E. Allushuski, president, Right Management. The conference historically begins the Wednesday following the Memorial Day holiday, making 2010 conference dates Wednesday, June 3 – Saturday, June 6.
