Physicians Health Plan in Lansing expanded its leadership team with the hiring of Dr. Timothy A. Peterson as its chief medical officer.

This comes just more than six months after University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor became majority owner of Physicians Health Plan. Peterson joins PHP with 20 years of clinical and teaching experience and more than 10 years of executive leadership in population health, accountable care organizations, and clinical care operations.

Peterson already has experience with PHP, having served on the PHP board of directors and on PHP’s quality committees. In his new role, Peterson will assume responsibility for medical resource management, pharmacy, and quality management. He will also continue his work in the emergency room at the University of Michigan serving as a physician and as a clinical associate professor.

“As we continue to grow Physicians Health Plan, we’re excited about the role Dr. Peterson will play in our long-term success,” says Dennis Reese, president and CEO of PHP.

PHP’s goal is to improve people’s lives by making healthcare more accessible for the diverse communities the group serves. It has an extensive network of provider partners and hospitals that provides its members access to high-quality, affordable healthcare. PHP is owned by two of Michigan’s top health systems, University of Michigan Health, and Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, and offers health care plans to individuals, employers, and Medicare beneficiaries throughout Michigan.
