DETROIT — St. Louis-based bakery and café, Panera Bread, is scheduled to open its first downtown Detroit location in early 2016. Covering more than 4,400 square feet, the restaurant will be on Level A of the GM Wintergarden.

“Whether you’re looking for a bagel in the morning, lunch or a take home dinner, the new bakery-cafe will be a great dining destination for the thousands of people who work in and visit the GMRENCEN every day,” says Claudia Killeen, manager of Renaissance Center Development at General Motors.

The restaurant will introduce Panera 2.0, a series of integrated technologies to enhance guest experience. The advancements will include custom ordering, mobile payment, fast-lane kiosks for dine-in and to-go diners, and Rapid Pick-Up for to-go meals.

The bakery and café is expected to begin construction in September and employ nearly 30 employees.
