OCC Names New Chief Information Officer

Oakland Community College Chancellor Tim Meyer has appointed Robert Montgomery, 54, as Oakland Community College’s Chief Information Officer, effective immediately.

Montgomery has occupied the position on an interim basis since 2012, and has spent more than 30 years in the field of Information Technology.

“Bob’s expertise, long experience in the private and public sectors, as well as his outstanding performance as Interim CIO, make him the perfect fit for this position,” Chancellor Meyer said.

From 2003 to 2012, Montgomery was OCC’s Executive Director of Technology Infrastructure, responsible for leading a staff of 50 to deliver both academic and administrative information technologies including infrastructure, desktop support and Help Desk/Call Center services to eight college sites.

Before joining OCC, Montgomery was Manager of Infrastructure & Communications Applications for ASC Incorporated, a tier-1 automotive supplier located in Southgate.  He held prior positions with Ameritech Information Systems, including Senior Product Specialist, Product Specialist, Strategic Account Executive and Sales Design Consultant.

He holds memberships, and has served with, numerous professional and civic organizations including the Merit Advisory Council, the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education, the Michigan Community College Association Virtual Learning Collaborative, the Alliance for Online Education, the Automation Alley eLearning Subcommittee, the Society for Information Management and the Information Technology Managers Association.

Montgomery also serves as an adjunct faculty member in Lawrence Technological University’s College of Management.
