Oakland University in Rochester has announced the appointment of California State University, Monterey Bay associate vice president for finance Stephen W. Mackey as OU’s new vice president for finance and administration, as well as treasurer to the Oakland University Board of Trustees.
Pending approval by the OU Board of Trustees, his appointment is expected to become effective in early January 2023.
“I am delighted that Steve will be joining us at Oakland,” says Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, president of OU. “He has an outstanding background and has demonstrated that he is entrepreneurial, innovative and has a strong fund of knowledge. Also, he is known to be collaborative and deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
With more than two decades of university finance and administration experience, Mackey has gained expertise in finance and budget management, human resources and faculty affairs, facilities management, policy administration and compliance, project and program management, and more.
Pescovitz added that Mackey rated highly among CFO candidates also because of developing and implementing strategies to ensure short- and long-term financial viability of CSU Monterey Bay during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mackey, a disabled American veteran who completed 12 years of service with the U.S. Air Force, previously served as vice dean for administration and finance for the University of Southern California’s Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences; as executive director of the USC Clinical Research Organization; and as director of research policy and strategic planning for the University of Miami.
