Oakland University Names Director of Athletics

1944

Oakland University has appointed Jeffrey F. Konya as director of athletics. Konya is currently the athletics director at California State University Bakersfield, where he has worked since 2010.

Konya replaces Robby Stewart, who has been serving as interim director of athletics. Former athletic director Tracy Huth left the position at that time to move to California, although he continued to serve in a part-time advisory role.

Konya has overseen all operational aspects of an 18-sport NCAA Division I athletics department at CSUB with an estimated $11 million annual budget, more than 60 coaches and staff, and approximately 350 student-athletes.

He has also held positions as the athletics director at Northeastern State in Oaklahoma, and has served in senior athletics leadership capacities at SMU, Memphis, Bucknell and UTSA.

Konya, a Royal Oak native, completed his Juris Doctor with honors in 1998 at the University of Iowa College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in 1995 from Princeton University.
