Oakland County Family Physician Rachel Klamo Appointed to National Leadership Position

Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) in Okemos announced that its president, Dr. Rachel M. Klamo of Oxford, has been appointed to the AAFP Commission on Continuing Professional Development. Klamo will serve a two-year term, which began Dec. 15, 2024.

Michigan Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) in Okemos announced that its president, Dr. Rachel M. Klamo of Oxford, has been appointed to the AAFP Commission on Continuing Professional Development. Klamo will serve a two-year term, which began Dec. 15, 2024.

This commission helps guide the AAFP’s credit system and its provision of continuing medical education that helps members and other health care professionals demonstrate continuous improvement in knowledge, competence, practice performance, and patient outcomes as well as fulfill educational requirements for licensure and certification.

“I am honored to congratulate Dr. Klamo on her appointment,” says Karlene Ketola, CEO of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians. “Her expertise and dedication will help shape the work of Michigan family physicians for many years to come.”

Klamo practices full-scope family medicine with the Henry Ford Health System. She serves on the Finance Committee, chairs the Henry Ford Rochester Hospital Ethics Committee, is the physician champion for statewide hospital medication safety, and is a past chief and current vice chief of the Department of Family Medicine.

Klamo has been actively involved with the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, having previously served as president-elect, vice president, speaker, treasurer, and director on the MAFP board of directors. She also dedicates her time to the Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan’s Professional Development Committee, which oversees all of the academy’s continuing medical education programming.

Klamo is one of 18 family physicians, along with one family medicine resident and one medical student, who volunteer their time to serve on the MAFP Board of Directors, providing governance and advisory services.
