New Year's Eve 'The Drop' at Campus Martius

DETROIT — The fourth annual Motor City New Year’s Eve “The Drop” will be hosted 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. December 31, in Campus Martius Park.  The free event is sponsored by Opportunity Detroit and Bamboo Detroit. The event will include a ball drop and entertainment by DJ Tom T and The Strange. Attendees will be able to ice skate in the park and enjoy s’mores and other concessions.

The ball will drop from the Chase Tower, with the Penobscot and Guardian Buildings providing a backdrop. A kids’ drop will take place at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature a kids’ drop at 6:30 p.m. and a food truck rally with Mac Shack macaroni and cheese and Rolling Stones wood fired pizza.

Fountain Bistro, located in the park, will be running specials and provide beverage centers and $10 drink tickets for two beverages.

“Being in downtown Detroit and having people come together to celebrate ringing in the New Year is so special,” said Tony Piraino, owner of Firebird Tavern and co-founder of Motor City New Year’s Eve.  “It’s great to see larger events like this happening in Detroit.” 

Firebird Tavern in Greektown will also be hosting a party in addition to the ball drop that will include open bar, food, music, and a champagne toast.
