DETROIT, Aug. 18, 2009 – With a prestigious recommendation from MGM Mirage, MiG Construction has been named Nevada’s Contractor of the Year by the Nevada Minority Business Development Council. In October, the 9-year-old integrated construction solutions firm, with offices in Midwest and Southwest United States, will compete for the national title.
Owned and operated by Paul Jenkins, MiG Construction gained notoriety after being awarded and successfully completing the $275 million Motor City Hotel and Casino. With a well honed plan developed by Jenkins and MiG Executive Vice President, Tom Patterson, before long, MiG Nevada was established. In April 2006, MGM Grand Resorts Development offered the company its first opportunity to capture Jenkins’ lifelong dream – building on the Las Vegas strip.
“MiG Nevada has repeatedly exceeded expectations by staying focused on the budget, schedule and respecting the project design,” said Irene Bustamante Adams, Director of Construction Diversity, MGM Mirage. “They are hands-on partners all the way through and continue to provide assistance once the project is turned over.”
With that dedication and commitment, MiG’s Vegas footprint spans across 13 properties including Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York, MGM Grand, City Center, Mirage, Treasure Island and Planet Hollywood.
Always interested in building, at 15, Jenkins drew the plans for the family cottage. Jenkins came by it honestly, his father, Joseph Jenkins was a celebrated civil engineer, who graduated from University of Michigan 1937 as the only African American in the college of engineering. His paternal great grandfather was a leading Detroit African American contractor and builder, and his paternal great, great grandfather, the first Joseph Jenkins, was a builder as well.
“Much of the company’s success is due to the passion and dedication that engulfs me and my staff,” said Jenkins. “It’s in our blood.”
And as the genealogy indicates, building really is in Jenkins’ blood. Paul Jenkins, a graduate of Michigan State University, is married to Anita, and has one son, Paul Jenkins, Jr., who is senior vice president of the company.
