DETROIT — Five Midtown restaurants experienced so much success with it’s Happy Hour promotions to lure customers during construction of the M-1 Rail line over the holidays, they’re continuing the offers at least through January.

Union Street, The Majestic, The Grille Midtown, Addison Eatery, and The Whitney all reported increased traffic and sales during December despite the construction on Woodward Avenue.

“We were concerned about what the tear-up of Woodward might mean for our restaurants, but it’s been an orderly process and it hasn’t seemed to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for being out and about,” said Sue Mosey, CEO of Midtown Detroit Inc.  “I think people are genuinely excited about everything that’s happening in Detroit and they want to get out and see it for themselves.  Our restaurants are warm places these cold days and each of them are them adding to their appeal with their own special offers .”

Each of the five restaurants is offering its own drink specials and hors d’oeuvres at reduced prices during Happy Hour which generally runs from 5 to 7 p.m.  The specials, which vary from restaurant to restaurant, include everything from $2 well cocktails and draft beers to champagne cocktails, shotgun shrimp, “Sloppy Jacks” (made with Jack Daniels), mac ‘n cheese and more.  Addison Eatery will offer special “Ladies Nights” and Union Street will have Tuesday night “open mic” events.

“There’s something for everyone,” says Mosey.  “We want to keep the interest and excitement levels up and the crowds coming in until the M1 line is up and operating.  Then we think everything will take care of itself.”
