Michigan Hispanic Chamber Names New Board Chair

BEVERLY HILLS — The Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has elected JoAnn Chavez as chair of its board of directors.

In her role, Chavez, the vice president and chief tax officer for  DTE Energy, will serve as the executive leader for the chamber to ensure all activities align with the mission and vision to promote economic advancement, growth, and sustainability for the Hispanic Business Community by enabling access to business opportunities and developmental resources through strategic initiatives.

Chavez, who previously held the position of corporate vce-chair, succeeds Gary Gonzalez, chairman and CEO of Gonzalez Design Group.  Gonzalez will continue to serve on the board as a director.

At DTE Energy, Chavez is responsible for overseeing the organization’s tax strategy, policy and compliance, including federal, state and local income, sales and use, and property taxes.

Chavez earned a bachelor of business administration degree and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Notre Dame.
