DEARBORN — Marketing and communications representatives from the 28 community colleges in Michigan today formed the Michigan Community College Marketing and Communications Association.

The association aims to bolster the marketing and public relations efforts of colleges individually while fostering efforts promoting community colleges in general. The new association is affiliated with the Michigan Community College Association, which provides legislative and government advocacy for community colleges statewide.

Previously, marketing representatives met occasionally as an ad hoc committee, but did not take steps to become a professional association until recently. Through a series of discussions, the group in January selected an organizational structure and an initial slate of officers while honing other initiatives for future unveiling.

Officers include President Eric Greene, director of public information and marketing at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek; Vice President Janet Roberts, executive director of marketing and communications at Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills; and secretary Gary Erwin, director of marketing and communications at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn.
