Michigan Certified Development Names New President

LANSING — The Michigan Certified Development Corp. has named veteran Michigan businessman/banker Michael H. Chatas as president. Chatas comes to the position from his post as president of United Structured Finance Co. in Ann Arbor.

In making the announcement, MCDC search committee member and Board Vice Chair Greg Nicholas cited Chatas’ 20-plus years experience in business development and Small Business Administration lending. “We are excited to gain a leader of Michael’s caliber and experience,” Nicholas said. “We believe he can take the MCDC to even higher levels as the leading provider of SBA 504 financing in the state of Michigan.”

Nicholas also announced the appointment of Anthony A. Reed, a business banking officer at Charter One Bank in Birmingham, to the MCDC Board of Directors. “Anthony brings 15 years of financial experience to the board and we are particularly pleased that his addition strengthens our board representation in the southeast Michigan market,” Nicholas said.

Chatas, from Ann Arbor, has an MBA in marketing and corporate strategy from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. and a bachelor of arts in economics from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
