DETROIT — MGM Grand Detroit today delivered 18 pallets of food to Gleaners Community Food Bank, as part of its At The Heart of Hunger initiative to collect 16,000 pounds of food, monetary donations, and rescued food to the nonprofit. MGM Grand Detroit’s efforts will provide more than 25,000 meals.
MGM Grand Detroit launched its At the Heart of Hunger campaign in February 2013 with a mission of feeding hungry people in metro Detroit. This year’s food drive yielded a 35 percent increase in donations over last year.
“At a moment of critical need, our team members rose to the occasion and poured their hearts out. We couldn’t be more grateful,” says Dee Dee McKinney Odom, director of public affairs, MGM Grand Detroit.
The company chose February for their annual initiative, knowing many nonprofits see a dip in donations during the post-holiday season.
“I’m so grateful for MGM Grand Detroit’s longtime commitment in helping to feed our hungry neighbors,” says Gerry Brisson, president of Gleaners Community Food Bank. “More than 700,000 people in southeast Michigan are food insecure. Thanks to the generous support of MGM Grand Detroit and its employees, Gleaners can make sure thousands in our community get the food they need to get through a difficult time.”
