Companies involved with the Girl Scout cookie supply chain recently taught a group of 60 metro Detroit Girl Scouts the process of baking, processing and shipping thousands of boxes of cookies in an event at Evans Distribution Systems’ Melvindale distribution center.
Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company’s Little Brownie Bakers, one of only two bakeries licensed to produce official Girl Scout cookies, demonstrated the baking process to a group of Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.
Representatives from UPS explained the company’s shipping process to distribution centers.
Finally, a group from Detroit-headquartered Evans Distribution Systems outlined their e-commerce partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA called Digital Cookie, which the company uses to process and fulfill cookie orders. Each scout had the opportunity to place and package a cookie order.
“Girl Scouts is an amazing organization that provides great opportunities for young girls,” says John Evans, president of Evans Distribution. “We’re thrilled to be able to support its mission and take part in educating the next generation about business and the supply chain process.”
