Metro Consulting Associates (MCA) in Detroit, an energy, land, and community development firm, announced its president, Damon L. Garrett, has been named the 2025 SBA Advocate of the Year by the Michigan Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO).
COMTO, a national organization dedicated to advancing diversity in the transportation industry, presented the award during its annual Pioneer Awards Breakfast at the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit.
The SBA Advocate of the Year Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a sustained commitment to supporting small businesses and advancing economic growth within Michigan’s transportation industry. As a civil engineer with more than 28 years of experience, Garrett has used innovative approaches to transform engineering projects into community-centered solutions. His efforts have expanded opportunities for minority-owned enterprises, promoted inclusion, and helped shape a more equitable and forward-looking transportation industry in the region.
“This award isn’t just a recognition of my work; it’s a reflection of the power small businesses can have to change communities when given the right opportunities,” says Garrett. “I’m honored to advocate for an industry where equity, innovation and local impact go hand in hand.”
