GRAND RAPIDS — Meijer partnered with California firm, PrescribeWellness, for its “A Million More” Flu Shot Initiative to help create healthier communities. The initiative was launched in August and strives to increase the influenza vaccination rate by one million more Americans.

PrescribeWellness developed this campaign to target young, healthy Americans, who don’t feel at risk for serious illness. The program empowers individuals to get a flu shot for their family, community and to help protect those at risk.

“More than 70 percent of health care costs are controllable with personal actions,” said Al Babbington, CEO of PrescribeWellness. “The health care debate is surging right now, so this is the time to raise awareness about the importance of preventative health care and how something as simple as getting a flu shot can help lower the cost of care.”

PrescribeWellness developed the most efficient and effective tools for influencing patient behavior by educating and motivating them toward vital health care habits. The “A Million More” Flu Shot Initiative allows pharmacists to connect with patients via outbound calling and social media.

“A Million More” campaign will run at all 199 Meijer Pharmacy locations in the Midwest, including the 100 stores in Michigan. These locations will also be participating in the “A Million More” Million Dollar Sweepstakes.

Patients who check-in at the pharmacy via Facebook will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win $1 million dollars. The contest began in October and will run through Dec. 31.

“Meijer is proud to support the ‘A Million More’ vaccination campaign because it highlights our commitment to offering healthy living solutions to our customers,” said Karen Mankowski, vice president of pharmacy operations. “The flu shot is a powerful yet simple way to create healthier communities, and our customers can get one at their convenience at all Meijer pharmacies.”
