
The MDTC (Michigan Defense Trial Counsel) awarded Judge Richard Caretti the President’s Special Recognition Award at the Annual Past Presidents’ Reception in recognition of his contributions to civil litigation.
MDTC was established in 1979 and exists to facilitate a greater exchange of views and advance the interests of civil defense attorneys.
Caretti is the presiding Judge over the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court. He was appointed to the Circuit Court bench in 2002 and has been elected to four six-year terms. In 2015, he was appointed by the Supreme Court to serve as a Business Court Judge. He was previously selected as the 2022 sole recipient of the MDTC prestigious Award for Judicial Excellence.
Caretti graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University in 1975 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Detroit College of Law in 1979. He was a police officer for the city of Detroit while he was attending college and law school.
