
Western Governors University (WGU) recently added Matthew Warren as its newest Strategic Partnership Manager (SPM) to its Central Region, which includes Michigan.
In this role, Warren will work to develop, nurture, and grow partnerships between WGU and organizations in the Detroit market and surrounding areas. WGU is a fully online, accredited, competency-based university that offers more than 60 degrees in business, IT, education, and nursing. There are 3,308 currently enrolled students and 5,382 total alumni in the state of Michigan.
Warren brings more than five years of experience working in higher education. Most recently, Warren served as associate director of outreach, business, and community engagement at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant where he led southeast Michigan corporate education partnerships and community relations to connect the region with online education resources.
Warren was a recipient of the 2023 Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce “Tomorrow’s 20” leadership and business innovation awards for his role in launching a six-week youth mobility summer camp with Youth Tank Detroit.
At WGU, SPMs are responsible for creating pathways to opportunity through education partnerships with community colleges, corporations, and school districts. Some examples of WGU’s education partners include Rocket Cos., KFC Foundation, and the Michigan Community College Association.
Warren earned both his bachelor’s degree in political science, and his master’s degree in higher education administration, from Central Michigan University.
