Lin-Hua Wu is GM’s New Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer

General Motors Co. in Detroit has named Lin-Hua Wu as senior vice president and chief communications officer.

Wu joins GM from Google, where she has served as vice president of global communications and public affairs since 2021. Wu’s appointment is effective Aug. 21. She will report to Mary Barra, GM’s chair and CEO.

Wu, 52, joins GM with experience in corporate, agency and tech industry communications. Before Google, Wu worked at Dropbox from 2016-2021, including serving as chief communications officer. Prior to Dropbox, she served as the head of corporate communications for Square (now Block), the financial services and mobile payments company.

From 2013-2015 Wu was a partner with the Brunswick Group. She also served as managing director at Kekst and Co. from 2004-2012. She began her career as an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati in Palo Alto, Calif.

“Lin-Hua’s broad experience and background will help drive more effective internal and external communications around our EV transformation and accelerated growth strategy,” says Barra. “Her extensive technology and Silicon Valley experience is the perfect fit for communicating our story as a technology-driven company that enables a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.”

Wu graduated with a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Stanford University and a law degree from Stanford Law School. She is a member of the board of trustees of Glide, a foundation dedicated to the creation of an inclusive, just, and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering. She is also a board member of the Stellar Development Foundation.
