Laura Huot, current COO of The Guidance Center in Southgate, has been picked to replace CEO Kari Walker, who is retiring in September after more than 30 years of service.
TGC’s board of directors unanimously voted to pick Huot, who will carry on the mission of the $55-million human services agency.
“Our board had deep discussions about the future of the organization and what kind of leadership we need,” says Kevin Fischer, executive director of NAMI Michigan and board chair of TGC. “We wholeheartedly agree that Laura is the perfect person to build upon the success and trajectory of The Guidance Center. Her passion for this work is palpable.”
Huot will become president and CEO following Walker’s retirement. The Guidance Center, which provides life-changing support to nearly 20,000 adults and children in Wayne County annually, has grown substantially under Walker’s leadership.
“It has been a true privilege for me to help lead The Guidance Center for nearly three decades,” says Walker. “I am delighted to announce Laura Huot as the new CEO, succeeding me upon my retirement. Laura’s leadership as COO has been exceptional and I am confident in her ability to guide our organization towards continued success.”
