Foster Swift Collins & Smith, a Lansing-based law firm, has hired Toi J. Thomas to the firm’s Southfield office as a member of the general litigation practice group.

Thomas joins Foster Swift as a lateral hire, previously having been in private practice since 2018. She focuses her practice in family law, estate planning, criminal law, and entertainment law.

This includes drafting and filing motions to stay evictions in landlord-tenant disputes; drafting and executing wills, trusts, and power of attorney documents; and appearing and advocating on behalf of clients regarding custody, parenting time, and child support disputes.

She earned her J.D. from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she was awarded the Leadership Achievement Award which recognizes students who have “consistently, comprehensively, and effectively provided leadership.”

Thomas volunteers at the Philippine American Community Center for pro bono services including a naturalization workshop, filling out applications for immigrants looking to become U.S. citizens and expungement fairs for many different organizations.
