STERLING HEIGHTS — KUKA Systems North America and sister company Thompson Friction Welding both of Sterling Heights will be presenting their lightweight bimetallic products at FABTECH 2013 in Chicago, Nov 18 – 21.
KUKA Systems and Thompson Friction Welding, are part of KUKA AG heardquarted in Augsburg, Germany using friction welding joining steel/brass, steel/copper, steel/aluminum and aluminum/ceramic.
“Combining metals lightens driveline components in vehicles, from the family car to the largest mining, construction and agricultural equipment,” said Robert Giaier, director of KUKA Systems North America. “Maximizing the use of lighter weight components is key to meeting more stringent government fuel efficiency standards.”
Friction welding is a process using no additional material or heat sources to weld. The production includes engine valves, aluminum shock absorbers, aircraft engine turbines, drill pipes, hydraulic components, printing rollers, and cross members.
