Truscott Rossman, a full-service strategic communications and public relations firm, has hired Kate Kelly as a senior account executive based in the firm’s Detroit headquarters.
Kelly’s experience navigating complex and contentious labor issues, as well as her background in Democratic politics, deepen the bench within the firm’s award-winning bi-partisan public affairs practice.
“Kate has a demonstrated record of creating and executing successful strategic communications plans, messaging and media strategy,” says John Truscott, CEO of Truscott Rossman. “Her skills are a perfect match for our bi-partisan work and strategic issues management portfolio.”
She joins Truscott Rossman from Boston-based communications agency 617MediaGroup. There she drew on her prior experience working with political campaigns, as well as local and international labor unions, to help craft and execute integrated communications strategies for labor, nonprofit, healthcare, advocacy, and political sector clients across the country.
Prior to her time at 617MediaGroup, Kelly worked as the campaign communications director for the Michigan House Democrats and as a communications specialist at UNITE HERE, where she supported communications for the 2018 nationwide Marriott strike, the largest hotel strike in U.S. history.
The same year, she was also charged with directing communications for the Detroit Westin Book Cadillac strike, the city’s largest hotel worker strike in over 30 years.
Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and public affairs from Central Michigan University.
