The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, a Detroit-based cancer center, today announced the appointment of Katrina D. Studvent as the positon of chief development officer. She will be reporting directly to Dr. Gerold Bepler, President and CEO of Karmanos.
“Katrina brings significant expertise and experience to her new role at Karmanos, especially in the areas of corporate and community relations, and resource development,” says Dr. Bepler. “Her leadership will guide philanthropic efforts to secure support that enhances patient care, innovative and ground-breaking cancer research, and capital projects.”
Studvent has been with Karmanos since 2010 and previously served as director of breast cancer special programs, and as director and race chair of the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure. She will maintain her leadership of this year’s race, happening May 13 at Comerica Park, while assuming her new role as chief development officer.
“Ten years ago, I was treated for breast cancer at the Karmanos Cancer Institute and 10 years later I am extremely proud to assume a role that will allow me to further my support of and strong belief in Karmanos’ progressive work,” Studvent says.
Studvent serves on several boards and committees, including the newly formed Komen Greater Detroit Affiliate board of directors, the Detroit HealthLink Advisory and Oversight Committee, and on the Michigan Cancer Consortium’s Membership and Health Equity committees. She has also received awards including the Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence Award in 2016, SHE’s Empowered Leadership Award in 2015, and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Heroes of Breast Cancer Geri Lester Award in 2009.
Studvent has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from James Madison College at Michigan State University.
