Varnum, a law firm providing personal and business legal services in southeast Michigan and beyond, announced that Jeffrey Stefan has re-joined the firm as a partner based in Detroit.

Stefan is a technology-focused attorney with broad legal authority in data privacy and advanced mobility matters. He is credentialed as a U.S. certified information privacy professional by the IAPP and regularly assists some of the world’s leading technology companies with regulatory and data privacy issues.

In addition to his technology practice, he handles a wide range of corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, supply chain agreements, and other commercial transactions. He also serves as outside general counsel for construction, fintech, and mobility companies.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Jeff back to the firm, and especially delighted to have him lead our data privacy, cybersecurity and autonomous vehicles teams,” says Ron DeWaard, chair of Varnum.

“Legal work in these areas continues to intensify and our clients will benefit from Jeff’s outstanding experience and leadership in the mobility industry and all industries with data privacy and cybersecurity needs.”

He rejoins Varnum from electric vehicle automaker Rivian, where he served as associate general counsel, leading a wide range of privacy-related matters in connection with the company’s development and production of the world’s first fully electric truck.

Stefan is a graduate of the Wayne State University School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University.
