Jefferson East Inc. (JEI) in Detroit announced it has hired Katherine Ralston to serve as its housing services director.

As the director of housing services, Ralston will be responsible for the strategic visioning and planning for housing counseling, home repair, foreclosure prevention, and renter assistance. She will also manage the suite of home repair services and oversee JEI’s role as a lead member of the Detroit Housing Network, a new organization that connects residents to a variety of city, state, and federal housing services.

“We are excited to welcome Katherine to the team, and we’re confident in her ability to support our residents’ housing and rental needs,” says Josh Elling, CEO at JEI. “Under Katherine’s leadership, our programs will continue to expand and thrive to meet the myriad of needs within the neighborhoods we serve and help residents build a brighter future in their homes.”

Ralston previously served as a financial and homeownership educator for Michigan State University Extension Community, Food, and Environment Institute in East Lansing. She was also the lead foreclosure prevention housing counselor at Detroit’s Southwest Economic Solutions, where she assisted, counseled, and coached homeowners while advocating for their needs in the community.

“Jefferson East has worked endlessly to not only provide critical resources to their residents and the community but to also identify the resources and services each homeowner needs to stay in their home,” says Ralston. “I’m looking forward to my new role with Jefferson East, and I’m excited to continue working with the community while advocating for the needs of Detroit homeowners.”

Ralston holds a master’s degree in public administration and a graduate certificate in economic development from Wayne State University.
