Honigman Attorney Named to Real Estate Hall of Fame

DETROIT — Lawrence D. McLaughlin, partner at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP and chair of its real estate department has been named to the 2014 Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame by Midwest Real Estate News.

Hall of Fame members are chosen from hundreds of Midwest commercial real estate professionals, who are nominated each year, for the depth of their experience and their contributions to the profession. McLaughlin is one of only three attorneys among the 70 professionals named this year. The vast majority are brokers and developers.

McLaughlin has been the chair of the real estate department, which includes more than 50 attorneys, for the past 15 years. He has been a real estate attorney for more than a total of 35 years and represents developers of commercial, industrial and residential real estate. He advises clients regarding acquisitions, land use, entitlements, development incentives, entity formation, joint ventures, financing, construction, leasing, taxation, sales, workouts, and restructuring.

McLaughlin was recently named co-chair of the International Council of Shopping Centers 2015 U.S. Law Conference, its 45th annual Law Conference, and will serve as chair of the Conference in 2016. He has served on the Law Conference Program Planning Committee since 2004. He also is a member of its Board of Governors and its Program Planning Committee.

He earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the General Motors Institute.
