Herman Miller Acquires Conn.-Based Furniture Store

ZEELAND — Herman Miller has acquired Design Within Reach, a Stamford, Conn.-based marketer and seller of modern furniture, lighting, and accessories. 

Design Within Reach’s CEO John Edelman and President John McPhee will continue to lead the business within Herman Miller and report to Brian Walker, CEO.  

Design Within Reach was founded in 1998 with a mission to make the best in modern design readily available to the public. Today the company is operating 38 retail studio locations in the U.S. and Canada, an e-commerce presence, and a print catalog. 

Herman Miller will be hosting an analyst day and investor conference call and webcast on July 31. This presentation will include comments from Walker and other members of his management team on the company’s strategy, including the acquisition of Design Within Reach. The presentation will also include a summary of the company’s updated three-year financial goals.
