WEST BLOOMFIELD, Nov. 1, 2010 – Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital will showcase its Healing Arts Program with a week-long schedule of events featuring live artist demonstrations, photography and art classes, as well as live jazz and orchestra concerts. The events will be held Nov. 15 – 19.
The purpose of Healing Arts Week is to give the community a glimpse of the different facets of the Healing Arts Program at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.
Attendees can learn about the benefits of gardening in Alzheimer’s patients, participate in a creative writing workshop or tour the hospital’s art gallery.
“Healing Arts Week gives us the opportunity to invest in the community through the arts,” says Gerard van Grinsven, president and CEO, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. “Our Healing Arts Program allows patients to utilize the arts as a positive distraction to reduce pain, anxiety and stress.”
Healing Arts Week also features “The Healing Power of Music,” a live performance by Guido’s Orchestra, led by Guido Dieterien.
Dieterien is currently touring the United States and has performed with music icons such as Lionel Richie and Elvis Costello. Dieterien and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital share a parallel vision of creating an environment for patients to heal by integrating creative arts and aesthetic experiences into the recovery process, says van Grinsven.
The Healing Power of Music concert with Guido’s Orchestra will take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Music Hall Center for Performing Arts, 350 Madison Street, Detroit, Mich.
