DETROIT — James M. Connelly, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Henry Ford Health System, has been appointed president and CEO of Health Alliance Plan.

Connelly, of West Bloomfield,  previously served a dual role as HAP interim president and chief executive officer and Henry Ford executive vice president and chief financial officer prior to his HAP appointment.

“Jim’s accomplishments during the past 14 years with Henry Ford as CFO and treasurer have been instrumental to our success,” says Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford. “During Jim’s tenure, the health system revenues doubled to $4.5 billion and our assets grew from $2 billion to $3.5 billion. Henry Ford has been profitable for the past decade.”

Despite the challenging economic environment, Connelly oversaw the financing of the $300 million, five-year expansion at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the $360 million construction of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. Jim’s talent, business expertise, and counsel benefit the entire System.

William Alvin, the previous CEO, is no longer with the health system.

With Connelly’s transition, Joe Schmitt will become acting chief financial officer of Henry Ford Health System.
